Project Links Probability & Statistics Group

Welcome to a (partially) Web-based presentation of
the Spring 1996 activities of
the
Probability and Statistics Group of RPI's
Project Links.

Goal of the Project Links Prob & Stat Group
To teach the concepts and mathematics of probability and statistics
intuitively and mathematically via integrated multimedia modules.
- Intuitively
- What is randomness?
- Where does it occur in ``real life"?
- What is the impact of randomness in actual systems?
- Mathematically
- Focus in 1996 on Poisson and exponential distributions.
- Connect the mathematics and intuition through applications
- Computer networks -- Ken Vastola, ECSE.
- Inventory management -- Tom Willemain, DSES.
- Data analysis and modeling -- Elisa Barney Smith, ECSE.
- Yield modeling in IC chip manufacture -- Raghu Ragavachari, DSES.
A Demo
The focus of this demo is linking the mathematics and intuition
of probability
using the application area of computer networking.
Let the demo begin!
